Even if the tape doesn’t get wet there may still be moisture in the air that can weaken its grip.

Make sure to mount your adhesive tape on a smooth, clean and dry surface. This will ensure the best possible hold.

Another way to mount a Ring Video Doorbell without screws is a No-Theft Mount. They attach using pressure instead of an adhesive. The mount is wrapped around a door and then tightened by turning an adjustable knob. But this method doesn’t work very well on rough stucco surfaces.

Can You Install A Ring Doorbell Without Screws?

The best way to mount a Ring Doorbell without screws is with a Ring No-Drill Mount. This is what I use on my own apartment and it works great.

Ring makes a special mount specifically designed for the Ring Video Doorbell 2, 3, and 4 which doesn’t require drilling or screws. The mounting plate is secured to a flat surface with adhesive strips. The strips are very strong, easy to install and water resistant.

Once the plate is mounted in place, the Ring Video Doorbell is secured to the mount.

Because the Ring Doorbell is held to the wall with adhesive, you don’t have to drill or use screws. This is a huge advantage if you’re a renter or simply don’t want to drill holes in your house.

Ring No-Drill mount only costs about $20, but if you want to mount your Ring devices even cheaper, buy your own adhesive strips. The Ring No-Drill Mount is just a special mount held to the wall with adhesive. You can save the $20 bucks by supplying your own strips.

Can You Hang A Ring Doorbell With Command Strips?

Yes, Command Strips can be used to hang a Ring Doorbell without drilling or using screws. However, you have to use exterior grade strips which are weather resistant. Indoor strips will not work because they loosen when wet.

Generally Command Strips also come with a mounting hook or bracket attached. This makes them better for hanging things like picture frames and lights. You can buy the refillable strips and use them without the brackets to secure your Ring. But I prefer using strong double sided tape instead. It’s the same basic idea but there are more products to choose from.

Using Command Strips to hang your Ring Doorbell isn’t the most secure method since it can be ripped right off the wall. I recommend mounting the Ring inside a glass storm door if you have one so that the door can be locked at night or when you’re away.

Can You Use Double-Sided Tape To Hang A Ring Doorbell?

Yes, double sided tape can be used to hang a Ring Doorbell without drilling or using screws. However, you must use exterior grade tape which are weather resistant. Indoor double sided tape will loosen when they get wet.

  • Double sided tape comes with a thin peel away strip on both sides which covers and protects the adhesive. Once you peel away the strip, the adhesive is exposed.
  • Don’t peel both sides of the tape at the same time. Instead, peel away one side and then secure it to the back of the Ring Doorbell Mounting Plate. Then press the plate onto a clean, smooth and dry surface.
  • I like to use a strip of tape along the top, bottom and both side edges of the Ring. Then I put a little strip in the middle.
  • Once the strips are in place on the back of the Ring, press it firmly against the wall. Make sure you mark exactly where you want the Ring to be mounted because you can’t adjust it later without ruining the tape.
  • The double sided tape I use is M 414 Scotch® Extreme Mounting Tape. It’s very strong and rated up to 30 lbs which is more than enough to hold a Ring Doorbell. And it’s exterior grade so it won’t fall off when it gets wet.

Using double sided tape to install a Ring Doorbell without drilling isn’t the most secure method since it can be ripped right off the wall. I recommend mounting the Ring inside a glass storm door if you have one so that the door can be locked at night or when you’re away.

Anti-Theft Video Doorbell Mount

A great way to install a Ring Video Doorbell without drilling, screws or adhesive is with an anti-theft mount. They don’t use screws, don’t require drilling and don’t use adhesive strips or tape.

  • The anti-theft video doorbell mount is made by a third party manufacturer and not Ring. It’s secured to a door using pressure instead of adhesive or screws.
  • The mount wraps around a door and then tightens by turning an adjustable knob. The more you turn the knob the tighter the mount squeezes the door it’s attached to.
  • Installing the no-theft mount is quick and easy and requires no drilling or screws. It’s compatible with various Ring Doorbell models and will grab onto doors between 0.78″ and 2.36″ in thickness.
  • The mount and fixing plate are slim and low profile. But, you need to check the clearance between the door and the frame once the mount is installed to make sure the door will close with the mount on.

The best place to install the anti-theft mounting plate is around a locking storm door. There’s usually enough space for the mount to fit while the door is closed because storm doors don’t have as tight a seal as a regular exterior door.

Can You Install A Ring Doorbell On Brick Without Drilling?

A Ring Doorbell can be mounted on brick by drilling the mounting plate into the brick. But mounting it without drilling or screws is much harder. Most adhesive strips and tape require a clean, flat and dry surface in order to stick properly. Bricks are uneven and rough. So the strips and tape don’t stick to the brick very well.

  • I’ve tested just about every type of adhesive strip and double sided tape on all sorts of brick and stone, including the Ring No-Drill Mount, and only one has worked. And it’s Gorilla Heavy Duty Exterior Mounting Tape. It’s super strong and capable of holding up to 60 lbs, exterior grade and works on masonry.
  • Because most Ring Doorbells weigh less than 2 lbs, the Gorilla tape has no problem holding it.
  • If you want to install a Ring Doorbell on a brick house without drilling or using screws, try Gorilla Heavy Duty Mounting Tape. The Ring Doorbell is taller than the height of a full brick so you’ll be mounting on top of a joint. Try to get as much of the tape as you can over a flat section of brick.
  • If your house has brick joints that stick out from the brick, the tape won’t work. It needs to sit flat against the brick in order to stick properly. To make them work you’ll have to chip away a small area of joint so that the Ring Doorbell can sit flush against the bricks.

Install the tape on the back of your Ring Mounting Plate first. Then firmly press the plate onto the brick. Mark where you want the Ring to be installed before you start because there’s no way to adjust it later.

Once the plate is secured to the brick, install the Ring.
