How To Remove Gorilla Glue From Skin

Gorilla Glue is one of the best adhesives on the market which comes in a variety of formulas including super glue and construction adhesive. Because Gorilla makes so many different types of glue, chances are they have something that will work for your project. As a home builder and designer, we use it constantly for repairing damaged plastic tools and building architectural models. Getting some glue on your skin is easy to do so you need to know how to remove it when it happens. Luckily there are lots of ways to remove Gorilla Glue from skin should you get some on yourself while working.

If Gorilla Glue gets on your skin, try to remove it as fast as possible. Gorilla Glue is a fast drying, strong adhesive so its best to clean it off your skin before it starts to dry. I always keep some alcohol with me when using glue just in case. If Gorilla Glue gets on your skin, immediately remove it with the alcohol. Nail polish remover works just as well if you don’t have alcohol.

If the glue has dried on your skin, the best way to get it off is gasoline. Petroleum breaks down the glue which releases its hold from your skin. But be careful because gas is flammable. A less flammable and dangerous way to get Gorilla Glue off your skin is using Vaseline. Rub either product into the glue until it starts to flake off. Then wash your hands with warm soapy water. You may have to repeat the process more than once to remove all the glue.

In this article, we’ll review a variety of ways to remove Gorilla Glue from skin.

Is Gorilla Glue Harmful To Your Skin?

Gorilla Glue is a strong, fast acting glue that dries quickly. If you accidentally get some on your hands it will start to dry within seconds. This is especially true with their line of super glues. Overall, Gorilla Glue has a short cure time so you need to act fast if some gets on you.

If Gorilla Glue gets on your skin, try to remove it immediately before it starts to cure. Once it starts drying, it gets a lot harder to clean off. When working with Gorilla Glue, wear gloves or keep paper towels and some alcohol on hand for clean up. Nail polish remover also works really well.

Gorilla Glue is designed to penetrate into a material’s pores when wet. It then dries to create a very strong bond. If it gets on your skin, the glue will start to penetrate which can irritate the area. This is especially true if you’re someone with sensitive skin.

  • If Gorilla Glue dries on your skin, the area could become flaky, itchy or develop a rash.
  • Gorilla Glue on your skin can cause irritation to the general area.
  • Glue removers like alcohol, nail polish remover, Goo Gone or petroleum products can cause further irritation to the skin.
  • Removing hardened Gorilla Glue from skin can leave irritated skin behind.

When removing dry Gorilla Glue from your skin, be aware that when dry the adhesive is either waterproof or water resistant depending on the type you used.

Once Gorilla Glue hardens on skin it can be difficult to remove. Gorilla Glue is a polyurethane adhesive that’s designed to stay glued onto whatever material it’s applied on so it doesn’t come off easily. The removal process may irritate the skin so be gentle.

Removing Dry Vs Wet Gorilla Glue From Your Skin

There’s a big different between removing dry vs wet Gorilla Glue. Time is very important if Gorilla Glue gets on your skin because it dries quickly. When working with glue, keep some alcohol or nail polish remover and paper towels handy to clean up wet glue immediately. If you can wipe off the glue before it starts to harden you’ll save yourself a lot of work later.

As Gorilla Glue starts to cure, it gets harder and harder to clean off. The faster you can wipe it off the easier it will be.

Once Gorilla Glue hardens, it’s very hard to get off. You’ll need to scrub it off and break it down by using various methods and compounds. Things like gasoline, Vaseline or Goo Gone work really well.

Ahead we’ll review how to remove both dry and wet Gorilla Glue from skin and we’ll discuss the different types of Gorilla Glue.

Removing Wet Or Tacky Gorilla Glue From Skin

Removing Gorilla Glue while it’s still wet or just getting tacky is much easier than when it’s dry. Try to remove glue that gets on your skin as soon as possible before it fully cures. Gorilla Glue sets quickly so this can be difficult to do. Keep some paper towels and a cleaner handy just in case.

Here are some steps on how to get wet or tacky Gorilla Glue off skin:

  • Act quickly and remove the glue while it’s still wet and soft. Once it dries Gorilla Glue becomes much harder to remove.
  • Keep paper towels and a cleaner like alcohol nearby when working with glue.
  • Wipe away wet glue as soon as it touches your skin.
  • Remove residue with alcohol or nail polish remover.
  • Next, wash the area with warm soapy water. Use a liquid soap instead of bar soap.
  • If there’s still some glue residue on your skin after wiping and washing, gently exfoliate the area.
  • If your skin feels dry after removing the glue use a moisturizer.

Wet glue seeps into pores and hardens which creates a tight bond. Remove Gorilla Glue from your skin as quickly as possible to prevent it from adhering. The longer you wait, the deeper it can penetrate and the harder it becomes to wipe off.

Removing Hard & Dry Gorilla Glue From Skin

Gorilla Glue dries and hardens fast. If it gets on your skin and dries before you wipe it off, removal is much more difficult to do. The most effective ways to remove hard Gorilla Glue from your skin is by using a cleaning agent like Goo Gone, Gasoline, Nail Polish Remover or Vaseline. These agents will break up the glue which causes it to flake off the skin.

Once the agent is used, wash the area with warm soapy water. Use a liquid soap rather than a bar soap. bar soaps rely on friction which can irritate the area.

After the skin is washed and dried, you may still have some remaining stuck on glue. Use a cleaning agent again to further break the glue down followed by another wash.

Repeat these steps until all the glue is removed. It may be beneficial to try multiple cleaning agents because they work in different ways.

Once all the glue and residue are removed from your skin, the area may be dry or irritated. Try to moisturizer or a cream to repair the skin.

Ahead we’ll review every way to remove dry and hard Gorilla Glue from skin.

Acetone Is One Of The Best Ways To Remove Gorilla Glue From Skin

Acetone is one of the best ways to remove Gorilla Glue from skin. It’s found in many household and beauty products including nail polish remover. It’s safe to use on skin, which is why it’s used in beauty products, and very affordable.

Start off by washing the area with warm soapy water. Then, pour some acetone on a cotton ball or cotton swab and start rubbing the glue. Pay attention to the edges of the glue because this is typically where it starts to flake off first.

Continue to add acetone to the area while rubbing in a circular motion. The glue with start to break up and come off the skin.

Below is a step by step breakdown of how to do it:

  • First, wash the area with some warm soapy water. Leave the skin wet.
  • Pour some acetone on a cotton ball or cotton swab.
  • Wet the effected area with acetone.
  • Rub the area making circular movements to soften and remove the Gorilla Glue.
  • Continue wetting and rubbing until all the Gorilla Glue is removed.
  • Wash the area with warm soapy water including your hands.
  • Acetone dries out the skin so apply some lotion or moisturizer afterwards.

Acetone will dry out your skin so apply some moisturizer or lotion to the area when your done.

If the skin becomes irritated, try a cream that soothes redness and/or irritation.

Use Rubbing Alcohol To Remove Gorilla Glue From Skin

Rubbing alcohol is one of the best ways to remove Gorilla Glue from skin. It breaks down and softens the glue which loosens it from your skin. It’s about as effective as acetone but doesn’t usually leave your skin feeling dry. You can buy rubbing alcohol at just about any pharmacy, Walmart, Target or grocery store.

Start off by washing the area with warm soapy water. Then, pour some rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball or cotton swab and start rubbing the glue. Pay attention to the edges of the glue because this is typically where it starts to flake off first.

Continue to add rubbing alcohol to the area while rubbing in a circular motion. The glue with start to break up and come off the skin.

Below is a step by step breakdown of what to do:

  • First, wash the area with some warm soapy water. Leave the skin wet.
  • Pour some rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball or cotton swab.
  • Wet the area with alcohol.
  • Rub the affected area making circular movements to soften and remove the Gorilla Glue.
  • Continue wetting and rubbing until all the Gorilla Glue is removed.
  • Wash the area with warm soapy water including your hands.
  • Rubbing alcohol may dry out the skin so apply some lotion or moisturizer afterwards.

Rubbing alcohol breaks down and softens stuck on Gorilla Glue making it easier to remove from skin. It’s cheap, easy to find and safe. And it doesn’t usually leave the skin feeling dry or irritated.

If the alcohol dries out you skin, apply some lotion or a moisturizer. if the skin becomes irritated, try a cream that soothes, redness and/or irritation.

Use Goo Gone To Remove Gorilla Glue Stuck On Skin

Goo Gone is a safe and effective way to remove Gorilla Glue from your skin. It’s sold at just about any hardware store, Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart etc. and costs under $10 bucks. It comes in a variety of formulas, the one you want is the original adhesive remover which comes in an 8 oz. bottle

Goo Gone is relatively safe to use on skin, but I’d limit it to just the area on and around the glue.

Here’s how to use it:

  • Soak Goo Gone with cloth or towel.
  • Apply Goo Gone with the towel onto the glue.
  • Make sure to get product all over the glue including the edges. But try not to get too much onto your skin.
  • Wait a minute or so to let the liquid soak into the glue.
  • Massage the glue off using a circular motion.
  • The glue should start to break up and peel off without damaging your skin.
  • Repeat as needed until all the glue is gone.
  • Wash the are with warm soapy water.
  • Apply a moisturizer.

Goo Gone can dry and possibly irritate your skin. Use a moisturizer or cream that helps red, irritated and/or itchy skin as needed.

Gasoline Is One Of The Best Ways To Remove Gorilla Glue From Skin

Gas is one of the best ways to remove Gorilla Glue from skin. It’s a solvent that breaks down the glue and removes it from skin. But be very careful when working with gas because it’s flammable. Don;t use gas anywhere near a flame or sparks.

Start off by washing the area with warm soapy water. Then, pour some gas on a cotton ball or cotton swab and start rubbing the glue. Pay attention to the edges of the glue because this is typically where it starts to flake off first.

Continue to add gas to the area while rubbing in a circular motion. The glue with start to break up and come off the skin.

Below is a step by step breakdown of how to do it:

  • First, wash the area with some warm soapy water. Leave the skin wet.
  • Pour some gas on a cotton ball or cotton swab.
  • Wet the effected area with acetone.
  • Rub the area making circular movements to soften and remove the Gorilla Glue.
  • Continue wetting and rubbing until all the Gorilla Glue is removed.
  • Wash the area with warm soapy water several times. Gas has a strong smell so a single wash may not remove it.
  • Gas dries out the skin so apply some lotion or moisturizer afterwards.

If the skin becomes irritated, try a cream that soothes redness and/or irritation.

Use An Exfoliate To Remove Gorilla Glue From Skin

Scrubbing skin with an exfoliate can help remove dry Gorilla Glue. Apply some baby oil to lubricate the area. Then rub the skin with some coarse salt, sugar or a store bought exfoliate mixed with warm water. If you want a hard exfoliate instead try a pumice stone. Get the stone wet and rub the glue lightly. Avoid pressing hard into the skin because you could irritate it.

Focus the exfoliate into the Gorilla Glue and its outer edges. Eventually it will start to release and flake off.

If you have sensitive skin you should avoid using this method. An exfoliate scratches at the skin which may cause irritation.

Below is is a breakdown of how to exfoliate away dry glue from skin:

  • Apply some baby oil to the effected area.
  • Rub the oil over the glue with a circular motion to work it in.
  • Use the pumice stone or exfoliate to scrub the affected area. Make sure to work on the edges because this is where the glue typically flakes off first.
  • Don’t apply too much pressure as this may cause skin abrasions or irritation.
  • When you see the glue start to flake off, massage the area with your fingers using some exfoliate or warm soapy water.
  • Repeat the process until all the glue flakes off.
  • Once all the glue is off, wash the area with warm soapy water and apply a moisturizer.
  • If your skin was irritated, try a cream to reduce the irritation and/or redness.

An exfoliate can damage sensitive skin so apply light pressure at first. Use more pressure if your skin type can tolerate it.

WD-40 Can Remove Gorilla Glue From Skin

WD-40 is a silicone based cleaner and lubricant that removes grease, grime, dirt, rust and more. It’s safe to use on the skin and works great at removing Gorilla Glue. However it’s a strong product that may cause some skin irritation so try to only get it on the glued area and not all over your skin and hands.

Soak a towel or cloth in WD-40 and use the cloth to get the effected area wet. Don’t spray WD-40 directly on your skin. It comes out of the bottle in a strong stream so watch out for splashing.

Use the cloth to get the Gorilla Glue wet. Then massage the area in a circular motion until the glue starts to break up and release. The glue will start to soften and peel off.

Repeat soaking the area in WD-40 and massaging until all the glue comes off.

Finally, wash your skin with warm soap and water and apply a moisturizer. If your skin becomes irritated, apply a cream that soothes redness and/or irritation.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Spray WD-40 lubricant onto a clean cloth and not directly onto your skin.
  • Wet the glued area with the towel.
  • Let the WD-40 sit for a minute.
  • Massage the area in a circular motion.
  • The glue will start to loosen and peel off.
  • Repeat this process as the glue start to break up and fall off.

WD-40 acts as a corrosion inhibitor to shield against moisture, frees and loosens sticking parts, removes grease, grime, rust, residue and glue from various surfaces. Once it start to penetrate the glue, it should break up and loosen from your skin.

Be careful not to get WD-40 into your eyes, nose, mouth or all over your skin and try not to inhale the fumes.

Citrus Can Remove Gorilla Glue From Skin

Citrus fruit like lemons, grapefruit, oranges, or limes contain acid which can help remove Gorilla Glue from skin. The acid gently breaks down the glue which makes it easier to scrub off the skin. The best fruit I’ve used to remove stuck on glue is lemon because it contains the most acid.

Cut a lemon in half and squeeze the juice into a bowl. Rub the lemon juice into the glue with a circular motion. The glue will start to break down becoming softer and flaky.

As the glue starts to soften and become flaky, add more juice and keep rubbing. If the lemon juice stops working, wash the area with warm soapy water and pat dry. Then apply more lemon juice. Keep switching between washing and using juice until all the glue is gone.

Here a step by step breakdown of what to do:

  • Slice a lemon in half.
  • Squeeze the juice into a bowl.
  • Rub lemon juice over the area of hardened glue in a circular motion.
  • You’ll eventually see the glue start to break up and become softer.
  • Repeat the process several times to keep softening the glue.
  • If it stops working, wash the area with warm soapy water. Then switch back to using lemon juice.
  • Switch between washing and juice until all the glue is removed.
  • Once all the glue is gone, wash the area with warm soapy water to remove the lemon juice.
  • If your skin feels dry apply a moisturizer.
  • If your skin is irritated, try a cream that soothes redness, itch and/or irritation.

This method is all natural but can still be very effective at removing Gorilla Glue from skin.

If you want lemon juice to work even better, rub the area with a pumice stone after the juice is applied.

Hand Lotion Can Remove Gorilla Glue From Skin

If you only have a small amount of Gorilla Glue on your skin, hand lotion can help remove it. Lotions contains moisturizers which penetrate into the skin and loosen the glues hold. But they don’t work very well on breaking up the glue itself. If you have a medium to large amount of glue on your skin, use another method.

One of the benefits of using lotion to remove glue stuck on the skin is that it also moisturizes the area. Most other ways to remove Gorilla Glue leave the skin feeling dry and possibly irritated. If you have a good quality lotion, I’d try this method first before resorting to harsher cleansers.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Apply some hand lotion to the affected area of your skin. Make sure the lotion has a strong moisturizer built in.
  • Apply a generous amount of lotion around the edges of the glue.
  • Let it soak in for a few minutes.
  • Massage the area with a circular motion.
  • The glue should begin to peel off.
  • Continue to apply lotion followed by massage until all the glue comes off.

By using lotion to remove Gorilla glue from your skin, you don’t have to apply moisturizers or creams afterward.

Remove Gorilla Glue From Skin With Baking Soda

Baking soda is an all natural way to remove Gorilla Glue from skin. Simply mix baking soda in a bowl with warm water, liquid detergent and some vinegar. The mixture will break up and soften the hardened glue, releasing it from the skin.

Here’s a breakdown of how to do it:

  • Add about 2 liters (2 Quarts) of warm water to a large bowl. The bowl should be large enough to completely submerge the effective area.
  • Add 1/2 cup baking soda to the water.
  • Then add 1/2 cup liquid detergent.
  • Add 1/4 cup white vinegar.
  • Mix the ingredients until the baking soda is fully dissolved.
  • Immerse the area into the liquid and rub gently until the glue is removed.
  • Wash your hands in clean warm water

This is a great all natural way to remove Gorilla Glue from skin. But it’s not as strong as using agents like acetone, gasoline, rubbing alcohol or Goo Gone. Natural remedies take more time and rubbing to work effectively. But they don’t typically irritate or dry out the skin.

To make the mixture stronger, simply add more baking soda, detergent and vinegar to the water.

Make sure to scale the ingredients to the amount of water you use.

Use Oil To Remove Gorilla Glue From Skin

Ordinary vegetable, baby and mineral oils can remove Gorilla Glue from skin without irritating or drying it out. The oils penetrate into the skin and glue, softening and breaking it up. They help release the bond between the skin and glue.

All you have to do it soak the area in oil and gently massage the glue in a circular motion. To remove the glue faster, rub a pumice stone over the glue after it’s been sufficiently oiled.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Take a clean cloth or paper towel and soak it in oil.
  • Use the cloth to apply oil over the glue and surrounding skin.
  • Rub the skin gently using a circular movement.
  • Let the oil rest on your skin for a few minutes without rubbing. This allows the oil to penetrate deeper.
  • Soak the area again and rub.
  • Repeat as needed to remove all the glue.
  • To speed up the process, rub using a pumice stone instead of a rag.
  • The dried glue will eventually begin to peel off.
  • Wash the area with warm soap and water.

The benefit of using oil is that it lubricates the skin so there’s generally no irritation caused by rubbing the glue off.

If your skin feels a little dry afterwards because of the washing, apply some moisturizer. Dry skin is very common after removing Gorilla Glue.

Shaving Cream Can Remove Gorilla Glue Stuck On Skin

Shaving cream or gel can remove small amounts of dry Gorilla Glue from skin. However the glue must be on a relatively flat area of the skin. Shaving cream contains moisturizers which penetrate into the skin making it easier to scrape and peel off the glue.

I prefer using a shaving gel rather than a cream but both methods work. Use a high quality product which contains a good moisturizer.

Here are the steps you need to follow to do it:

  • Put some warm water in a bowl.
  • Apply shaving cream or gel over the affected area where the dry glue is.
  • Let the cream rest for about a minute or two. This allows moisturizers to penetrate into the skin.
  • Dip a shaving razor into the warm water.
  • Carefully and slowly scrape the dried glue off your skin.
  • Scrape slowly or you risk cutting the skin.
  • As you scrape, apply more cream to keep the area lubricated.
  • When all the glue is gone, wash the area with warm soapy water.

Be careful when using this method because it’s easy to cut yourself. I would only use it on small stuck on glue that’s on a flat area of skin.

How To Remove Gorilla Glue From Between Your Fingers

Removing Gorilla Glue from your fingers is harden than flat parts of the skin. Especially if you accidentally glued your fingers together. If this happens, don;t try to force your fingers apart or you could tear the skin and injure yourself.

To remove Gorilla Glue from your fingers, especially if you glued them together, takes a strong agent like acetone or nail polish remover. Regular soap and water or the other all natural methods we listed above won’t work as well. And since the fingers are glued together you can’t use an exfoliate or massage the area.

If you accidentally Gorilla Glue your fingers together, here’s what you need to do:

  • Fill a container with acetone or nail polish remover.
  • Submerge your fingers into the solution.
  • Keep your fingers in the liquid as you wiggle them back and forth.
  • Remove your fingers from the solution and use your other hand or a wedge to slowly and gently pry them apart.
  • As you make progress and the fingers start to spread, put them back in the liquid.
  • Repeat the process until your fingers are completely free.
  • Don’t rush or use too much pressure or you could injure your fingers.
  • When your fingers are apart, use an exfoliate, acetone, nail polish remover, or any of the other methods we’ve discussed with soap and warm water to remove the glue from your skin.
  • Once all the glue and residue are gone, wash your hands with some warm soapy water and apply some moisturizer.

If your skin is irritated from removing the glue, apply some cream that soothes irritated, itchy and/or red skin.

Tips For Using Gorilla Glue

Gorilla Glue is a strong adhesive that cures fast and dries strong. It’s easy to get some on your skin which can be hard to get off if allowed to dry. Any of the all natural ways to remove Gorilla Glue from skin we discussed above will work on Clear Gorilla Glue.

How To Remove Gorilla Super Glues From Skin

Gorilla Super Glue and Super Glue Gel comes in a few different applicators like pens, brushes and nozzles. But the glue is basically the same no matter how you apply it.
