Quality From The Ground Up

When you dream about the perfect deck, chances are you haven’t given much thought to what lies beneath it. Even though your deck’s substructure may not make the family photos, it’s actually the most important part of your new outdoor space. Trex’s super durable triple-coated steel beams, joists and tracks create stronger and straighter deck support structures vs. wood.

Stronger

  • Unparalleled strength enables cantilevers and dramatic curved deck designs
  • Longer spans allow for fewer posts and less obstructed views
  • Triple-coated steel offers consistency, durability and reliability that other materials can’t

Straighter

  • Dimensionally stable steel stays where you install it–no warping
  • Consistent dimensions mean a level run from house to edge
  • Precision engineering ensures surfaces remain flat over time

Safer

  • Rot- and termite-proof steel lasts much longer than wood
  • Non-combustible material has Class 1A fire rating
  • Rigorously tested for safety
  • CCRR-0186 code compliance research report approves Elevations® for exterior use
  • Chemical-free, unlike pressure-treated lumber

Smarter

  • Neutral finish blends with most decking colors making the substructure less visible from above
  • Contains a minimum of 25% recycled steel and is a 100% renewable resource
  • Works beautifully with the Trex® RainEscape® drainage system
  • Backed by the Trex® 25-Year Limited Residential Warranty

TREX DECK BUILDING PROCESS

Custom deck building with a plan. If we have the privilege of building your new deck in Ocean or Monmouth County NJ. We’ll develop an understanding of your needs, personal style and goals. Beginning with general questions like how many square foot you may want, what you plan to use the deck for and your budget. Then we get into more specialized details like the various colors, textures, styles and materials you can choose from. Building a new deck is exciting with plenty of important decisions to make along the way. Most homeowners can find the construction process a bit overwhelming so we’ve developed a workflow which makes it all smooth and easy.

1. Our Process Begins with You

The first step in our process is to gather as much information as possible about your ideas to really get a sense of what you’d like the end result to be. We come to your home to provide plenty of product displays, samples, and product literature, as well as access to our extensive data base of deck designs. Once we have enough information about your vision for a new deck we’ll finalize a formal proposal.

2. Contract / Down Payment

Many people like to review the proposal together and look at the displays once more before making final decisions on their project, so a return to your home to go over the plans is common. When ready to proceed with the project, a contract is signed, project plans are approved, and a down payment is placed so that we can begin preparation work.

3. Drafting / Preparation

We handle all of the drafting and preparation of the plans for submission to your local municipality in order to gain any needed permits for the project. We also handle scheduling inspections, as well as coordination of other aspects that might pertain to the project. Homeowners simply need to provide us with a plot plan for zoning approval, and if necessary, provide us with trustee approval. In very few instances, you may need to obtain permission from your local Architectural Review Board, which we can also assist with.

4. Materials and Job Prep

During the time that we’re working on getting plans approved with the local municipality, we’re also taking care of securing materials and having everything ready to start the project. Our goal is to complete the project in as smooth and timely a manner as possible. The general lead time for starting projects is around six weeks, but it depends greatly on the project scope and the amount of work that is currently scheduled as we work on a first-come, first-serve basis. We’re very flexible to work with and our customers are always very pleased with the communication and solutions we provide.

5. Build / Completion

Most projects are completed in 2-4 weeks once under way. Again, this varies with the type of project and overall scope of work, but we’ll be able to discuss this with you in advance. Throughout the process, we’re always available to answer your questions and provide updates on our progress. Our installers are friendly and good communicators, and you’ll always be able to regularly communicate with the project planner you’ve worked with from day one.

Wood Decks

Traditional wood decks are typically constructed of pressure treated, weather resistant frames with pressure treated decking or durable aesthetic hardwoods like Ipe (Brazilian Walnut), Garapa Gold or Mahogany. Wood decks can be very affordable but will require regular maintenance to ensure a long lasting element to your new outdoor living space. It’s hard to beat the beauty of a real wood deck.

Composite Rails and Decking

PVC and Composite decking materials such as Trex, Timbertech, Fiberon, or Azek offer end users a true plethora of color, and pattern options. They are durable, have much lower risks of rotting, require no staining, never warp or splinter, and are completely maintenance free. We also offer dozens of choices for railings such as iron, white, pvc, glass or mahogany and install accessories such as deck lighting, outdoor speakers, tvs, etc.

Under Deck Systems

An under deck drainage system – also called an under deck ceiling or dry deck – keeps the space underneath your second story deck dry. Imagine the benefits of having the entire area under your 2nd story deck be usable in any weather condition. Create a place to have your BBQ year-round and never cancel a cook out due to bad weather! Or maybe a private hot tub retreat to soothe away those stressful days? Sit out under your deck and watch the snow fall or stay cool in the shade on hot summer days.

Under Deck is an all-aluminum system that captures the excess water from your second story deck using specially designed ceiling panels. The panels allow the water to flow into a rain gutter and away from the house, keeping the space beneath your deck dry and usable.

Deck Lighting

There are quite a few options for you to choose from when it comes to lighting a deck. You can opt for outdoor fluorescent light fixtures, solar lights, or even traditional incandescent fixtures. However, if you’re installing a new system from the ground up, choosing low voltage LED deck lights is by far the best option.

Why LED Lights?

First and foremost, LED light bulbs use a fraction of the power of any other type of light fixture. This even includes compact fluorescent bulbs, which are highly touted as a great, energy efficient option. This will save you money on electrical bills throughout the year and makes the slightly higher upfront cost for the fixtures worthwhile in the long run. In other words, over time LED light bulbs pay for themselves and save you money each and every year you use them.

Another great benefit of LED lighting is that you won’t have to change the light bulbs very often. The filaments in incandescent bulbs break fairly easily and the mercury in CFL bulbs wear out with regular usage. However, the hydrogen gas in LED lights can last for years and still function properly. Some customers say they never have to change a single one of the LED light fixtures even after years of continuous use.

Finally, LED lights have several advantages over solar lights as well. Solar lights need lots of direct sunlight for them to work at their peak levels. Good luck using a solar light after a day of shade. And they’re very limited in styles, sizes and colors. However, installing low voltage LED lights solves both of these problems. No longer will cloudy days ruin your entertaining nights.

Installing low voltage LED deck lights has so many advantages over using any other type of deck lighting. The bulbs use much less energy, last longer, and are even more dependable than any other type of lighting.
