A Blink could blink red if the household WiFi is either offline or has a weak signal. Just because there’s a WiFi signal doesn’t mean it’s strong enough to communicate with Blink.

Make sure you position your Blink Outdoor cameras in areas with a strong and stable WiFi connection.

How To Connect Blink Outdoor Camera To WiFi

If your Blink outdoor camera is blinking red it may be indicating a connectivity problem. Blink camera requires n internet connection and WiFi in order to function properly. With both internet and WiFi it can’t communicate through the Blink app or save video to the cloud.

Here’s a step by step breakdown of how to connect Blink Outdoor camera to WiFi:

  1. First, connect the Blink Outdoor Camera to the Sync Module’s WiFi network, it should be named “BLINK” . Every Blink camera should come with a serial number that you can use to connect.
  2. Select “Join” to secure the connection.
  3. Next, select your WiFi name from the list of WiFi networks within range.
  4. Enter your password.
  5. The network setup should be complete and a “Done” button should appear on the screen.

If this process doesn’t work for you after trying it a few times, check your other devices to make sure your internet and WiFi are working properly. Use your smartphone to check the internet connection in the exact location you’re installing the Blink.

In some cases your internet could be working fine but you’re installing the Blink too far away from the router. If this is the case, move the router, the camera or use a WiFi extender.

If all else fails, contact customer support because there may be an issue with the camera.

Blink Outdoor Camera Flashes Red When It Detects Motion

But the exact time depends on how much it’s used.

When a Blink Outdoor camera’s batteries are failing, its LED flashes Red 5 or 6 times after the Blue recording light goes out. Install 2 fresh size AA 1.5 volt Lithium non-rechargeable batteries before the camera goes dead. Once you install fresh batteries the red light will stop blinking.

Step 2. Check The Internet Connection

If your Blink Outdoor camera is repeatedly flashing red it could mean it’s searching for an internet connection. In order for your Blink Outdoor Camera to function properly it must be connected to the internet via WiFi. Without WiFi the Blink can’t communicate with your app or the cloud which means no streaming or storing video.

If your Blink is flashing red due to no internet or a weak signal there could be a few causes.

  • Check the location of the Blink, it should be installed somewhere with a strong and stable WiFi signal. If your Blink is too far away from the router, you can move the router closer to your Blink, use a WiFi extender or move the camera.
  • The router may be down and not sending a WiFi signal.
  • There could be an issue with the modem.
  • If there’s an issue with your router or modem, the best fix is a reset. Unplug the router or modem and pull out the battery, wait 30 seconds, install the battery and plug in your hardware. A reset can fix many common connectivity issues.
  • Check with your internet service provider to make sure there isn’t a problem with the service.

Follow these steps to use the mobile Blink App to connect your camera to WiFi:

  • Download the blink mobile app on your phone
  • Open the blink mobile app
  • In the Blink mobile app, choose the “Network & Connectivity” tab
  • The “Search” button can be used to look for networks
  • Select your network by name
  • Type in your WiFi password.
  • When asked to confirm the connection, choose “Confirm”.

How To Hard Reset A Blink Outdoor Camera

If you can’t stop the red light from blinking on your Blink Outdoor camera after checking the internet and changing the battery, it may be time for a hard reset to factory settings. This is also a good thing to learn in case you want to sell the device. A hard factory reset is very simple and easy to do with a household pin or staple.

On the right, close to the USB connector, is the reset button.Press something thin, like a pin or staple, into the reset hole and press the button. Hold the button down. You should see a red light blinking. Continue to hold down the reset button for about 30 seconds until the light comes on. The Sync Module will reboots into setup mode which is back to factory settings.

Resetting the camera reverts it back to its original factory settings. If this doesn’t fix the blinking red light then there’s a defect with the camera. Call customer service or return it to the store you bought it if it’s still under warranty.

If you’ve checked the WiFi connection and battery, and performed a factory reset, but the Blink is still blinking red, contact customer support. There’s nothing else you can do from your end to fix the camera.
