How To Find Airpods When Dead

Apple AirPods are wireless Bluetooth earbuds designed to work with your iPhone and iPad. But since they’re Bluetooth audio devices, you can also use them with almost any other computer or smartphone. Airpods are completely wireless devices. Each has its own Bluetooth radio built in and pairs with your phone or other devices via Bluetooth. An AirPods charging case has an integrated battery built in which extends the battery life of the earpieces up to 30 hours. The original AirPods case was charged by cable, but the AirPod 2 offers an optional wireless charging case at an additional cost. When Airpods are charged they’re easy to find with an app on your iPhone called Find My. But when Airpods are dead finding them can be more challenging. Luckily the Find My app on your iPhone can still help.

To find Apple Airpods when they’re dead, use the Find My app. The Find My app will tell you their last known location and if they were in Bluetooth range. Open the Find My app on your iPhone. It’s generally under Utilities in the App menu. Tap on the name of your AirPod device under the Devices tab. You can view your Airpods battery level and last location below the name.

The Find My app will tell you the last place your AirPods were when they died and if they were within Bluetooth range.

With the information provided by the Find My app, you can go to the Airpods last location. However, if someone moved them after the Airpods went dead, the app won’t be much help.

Find My will only located dead Airpods if you set up the app while the Airpods are charged. If you don’t set up Find My it won’t be able to locate your dead Airpods.

How To Find Dead AirPods

On average, the battery life of a fully-charged, second-generation AirPods is 24 hours of listening time if you count the charges stored inside the case. However for third-generation AirPods battery life can extend up to 30 hours. If your AirPods were left somewhere and were turned on for more than 30 hours, there’s a good chance the battery is completely dead.

If the battery in your Airpods goes dead and you can’t remember where you left them, the Apple Find My app can help.

Find My app works best when locating AirPods that are charged. The Find My app can provide a precise and estimated location within the 20-meter range, using GPS and Bluetooth services of your last Airpod.
