Patio Enclosure Sunroom

A Patio Enclosure Sunroom is a room built on top of an existing or new patio. The sunroom can be either four-season or three-season, and it can be built to any style, but the floor is always the patio. For this reason, most patio enclosures are ground level, unless the patio was raised.

If you build a patio enclosure on top of an old patio, you’ll be limited in design options based on how much weight the patio can support. Because of this limitation, we usually pour new footings to support the weight of the sunroom.

Patio Enclosures bring the outdoors inside while providing a stunning architectural element to your home. They allow in tons of natural light and stay comfortable, even in the hottest Summers or coldest Winters when you include climate controls in the design.

Because of all the added sunlight, your sunroom may get warm in the summer, so blinds are always a nice touch. To add coziness in the winter, add a fireplace. Want even more natural light? Add some skylights or a full glass roof. But to truly bring the outdoors in, decorate the room with plants and add sliding glass walls for a true indoor/outdoor experience.

What Is a Patio Enclosure Sunroom?

A patio enclosure is simply a sunroom built on top of an existing or new patio. New walls and a roof are built with the patio becoming the room’s floor. This typically creates a sunroom that’s ground level unless the patio is raised.

The walls and ceiling of the sunroom can be well insulated, but the patio won’t be. For this reason, enclosures are always a little colder than sunrooms with an insulated floor. This makes it difficult, but not impossible, to integrate into the home without an insulated dividing wall. However, they can be temperature controlled with both heating and A.C.

Patio enclosures can be built as a three-season or four-season room. Heat and A.C. can be run from the existing home’s systems or a new system can be installed just for the sunroom.

Why Add a Patio Enclosure Sunroom?

You’ll truly appreciate the advantages of a Patio Enclosure Sunroom on days when you’d like to sit outside but the weather isn’t ideal. Sunrooms that aren’t sealed and insulated can be uncomfortable when the temperature gets extreme or the weather’s bad, but our sunrooms can be used any time of year and in any weather.

Building a patio enclosure can increase your home’s resale value because it adds more usable space, but they’re not considered living space, so the tax implications aren’t as severe as a full-blown addition.

Even though patio enclosures are built on top of a patio, they can still be well insulated, so you can use them year-round if you add heating.

Here are four of the biggest benefits of building an all-season sunroom in your home:

1. Insulation

Gambrick uses R-values high enough to pass state code for living space. Typically that’s R-19 to R-23 in walls, R-30 in floors, and R-38 in ceilings. Because a patio enclosure is built on top of a patio, you can’t insulate the floor, so we usually compensate for this by adding even more insulation to the walls and ceiling.

This added insulation makes it even easier to heat and cool the room in the Summer and Winter months.

2. Aesthetics

Sunrooms have an air of elegance and sophistication when they’re designed and built properly. The glass allows in more natural light and adds character to the home. Sunrooms also bring new design options into play like exposed beams, a wood ceiling, vaulted ceilings, walls of glass, glass roofs, or more skylights.

The exterior of your sunroom can be integrated into the look of your home, or you can do something different to make the room truly stand out.

3. Natural Light

As a top sunroom contractor in NJ, we’ll design a dream space for enjoying all four seasons with the benefit of being indoors. You’ll appreciate sunny days and cold nights with lots of natural light at just the right temperature.

Natural light can provide both mental and physical health benefits for you and your family. You might notice that you have more energy, improved sleep, and reduced seasonal depression when you spend more time in the sun. It can even reduce the health risks associated with exposure to fluorescent lighting and it’s better for your eyes.

A sunroom is also an excellent place for growing and maintaining beautiful and healthy plants. You can plant species native to hot and humid climates and enjoy gorgeous blooms throughout the year.

4. Increased Home Resale Value

A sunroom built by Gambrick can significantly increase your home’s resale value because it adds square footage to the home. Since sunrooms tend to be on the pricey side, it’s easy to recoup more of the construction expenses, making sunrooms a great financial investment for homeowners in terms of ROI.
